2012 NHL® All Star Game Format

The NHL has a new format for selecting the two teams for the NHL All Star game in 2012. The Ottawa Senators's will host the new format at the Scotiabank Place. The balloting began at the beginning of the season by the fans who get to vote in the top 6 players by position regardless of conference. The first players chosen are forwards Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Marc-Andre Fleury and Kris Letang of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith of the defending Stanley Cup champions the Chicago Blackhawks. 36 more players (6 goalies, 12 defensemen and 24 forwards) will be chosen by NHL Operations. January 27th, 2012 two captains will pick each team from the pool of players chosen for the NHL All Star game.
