The FA
The FA or the Football Association is the governing body for all soccer associations in England, which
stands at 43 associations. The FA is the first football association in the world and is the only one with the distinction of not having the country name (English) in it. The FA makes their home at Wembley Stadium, which they own and operate. The FA is responsible for many properties and appointments of personnel, with their biggest competitions being the FA Cup and England Internationals. The FA Cup comprises all clubs that are either amateur and pro that enter into the completion. The FA Cup final is held every May at Wembley Stadium. The current Chairman is Lord Treisman and the Chief Executive is Ian Watmore. Since 1939, a member of the Royal Family has served as a figurehead president. Since 2006, Prince William has been the President.
The History of The FA
On October 26, 1863, the FA had their first meeting. The Football Association at this meeting committed to a uniform set off rules for clubs to compete too. This helped the game progress quickly and eliminated much of the fighting over different rule systems that would erupt during a match. Ebenezer Cobb Morley was instrumental in form the FA by writing to a newspaper proposing the governing body. He was chosen as the first secretary for the FA and second president. He is widely known as the person who drafted the Laws of the Game.
Wembley Stadium
The New Wembley Stadium was completed in 2006 and is now the home for the FA. The new Wembley Stadium replaces the old one that stood on those same grounds since 1923. Wembley Stadium is home to many of England’s top National team matches along with many properties of the FA including, The FA Cup final, Football League Cup (Carling Cup) and Football League Trophy. The 2011 UEFA Champions League Final will be hosted at Wembley. Global Event Forum has all packages for all major events at Wembley Stadium.
