Aston Villa Football Club is located in Aston, a section of Birmingham, England. The current captain of AVFC is Stiliyan Petrov from Bulgaria. Petrov has been a member of AVFC since 2006 when he came over from the Celtics. Villa is lead by the young English striker Ashley Young. The Second City Derby are the matches between Aston Villa and archrival Birmingham City. The last six Second City derby’s have gone to Aston Villa and have carried extra significance since the 2002 promotion of Birmingham to the Premier League.
History of the Aston Villa FC
Aston Vila FC was formed in 1874 by four members of the Villa Cross Wesleyan Chapel. Their first flag came with the FA Cup final win in 1887. For the next 30 years, Aston Villa was one of the most successful English football clubs, but in 1936 after few years of decline, the team was relegated. After a few managerial changes and a war, Villa was finally back on top by 1977. The Villains, their nickname, have won 7 top division titles and 7 FA Cup finals. The current manager is Gerard Houllier. The team is owned by American businessman Randy Lerner also owner of the NFL’s Cleveland Browns.

Villa Park has been the current home for AVFC since 1897 and is only the third home for the club. Rated as a 4 star stadium, the capacity is quite large at 42,877 for a Midlands city team. Unless you have been a fan for a long time, the only way to get AVFC tickets is with a package. It is not encouraged to go to Villa Park as a fan of an opposing team, you may even get ejected for not supporting the home club.
